Summer in the Village is an impromptu concert series at
Westminster United Church, rooted in Westminster's strong musical traditions and our mission of reaching out to the community, and rooted in the
Cathedral Village neighbourhood's active support for the arts.
Regina produces, draws, or has links to an amazing number of world-class musicians! Summer in the Village is about showcasing such artists, and giving the community more access to their music.
Summer in the Village is open to a broad range of musical styles and instrumentation. The
line-up for the first part of the summer ranges from classical string ensembles to Scottish fiddlers to jazz trio.
The Venue
Westminster United is an outstanding venue as a performing space for smaller groups - ensembles, massed choirs, chamber orchestras, etc.
Tafelmusik gave us high marks, after their
October 2006 concert here, organized by Luther College High School. In late 2007, the sanctuary was beautifully redesigned to be more accessible to performing groups and group participation in worship, eliminating the need to arrange for temporary staging.
AdmissionAdmission to all concerts is by donation, unless otherwise noted. Proceeds are allocated to defray expenses, to support the performers, and to maintain the venue.
